Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep red colour with loads of ripe fruit and spice on the nose, including pepper, dark berries and vanilla. On the palate it has elegant layers of flavour and good length.
Ageing Potential
Although drinkable now, it should keep until about 2006.
Blend Information
Shiraz
In The Cellar
The 2001 vintage was an excellent red wine vintage for Villiera with excellent potential for maturation. A new "bush vine" vineyard was blended with our small block of old "bush vine" Shiraz, to create an intensely flavoured Shiraz in larger quantities than before, malolactic occurred partially in barrel after which it was racked out and blended with the balance. The blend was then racked into a mix of French and American oak for a period of 12 months.
